(Hopefully that comments problem is long gone now).

I agree, it's head-in-the-clouds thinking. It's not something that can be done at the flip of a switch. But the problem as I see it is that it's traditionally a non-issue. It's only now, with growing levels of obesity and mechanization going hand in hand, that people are starting to say "hold on - WHY would I want to do it this way?". For that, the green movement must take a fair share of the credit for making people acknowledge it's even worth looking at.

"Until it's common". That's the biggie. Until it's common knowledge that this is a problem, it's easily categorized as Impractical or even Nutty. Again, good ole' green movement: past "nutty" measures such as solar panel energy-gathering and recycling are now fully mainstreamed.

The question is How. What's the process? *Is* there one?

Oops. My apologies - I seem to have missed these comments previously.

Solar charging for laptops? That would be the holy grail for me- being able to write completely off the grid would be marvelous.

*goes away - comes back*

Okay, I can tell I could very easily spend money I don't really have on that site. Consider it bookmarked with a big red flag next to it. (And thanks). :)

I like a lot of your ideas, but one has to weigh energy saving and producing against the reality of businesses paying folks for the time it takes them to move around slowly and with difficulty. Until it's common throughout the world, being "green" could price the avant garde out of the market. This is always a problem, of how to get started without killing off the sincere triers.

PS/ it took me 20 minutes to get a comments box to show in spite of having joined that whatchit thing. It can't be only me. I think you have a problem.

Interesting post. I agree with making stairwells nice looking to encourage people to use them. I have a hand crank radio and crank flashlights very useful items. The Hymini looks very interesting. Have you checked out https://powertraveller.com/ they have some cool solar power charging options for lap tops and phones.
